The stele was erected in memory of two maquisards who were killed.

In 1946, a Maquis stele was erected at Pont du Pâtre, next to the fire hydrant, in memory of Lieutenant Sariego Michel and Monsieur Grand Pierre, who were killed in the area on August 17, 1944 while on a mission against the occupying forces.
In 1957, for reasons of distance, the stele was moved to the edge of the old Route Nationale 96. The stele was finally placed next to the Monuments Aux Morts on April 14, 1964.
