French-Colombian painter, born in 1971 in Palmira, Colombia. Her family moved to Ecuador when Rosario was seven years old. Uprooted, she experienced the Colombian conflict from afar, with dramatic consequences for her maternal family. In Quito, Rosario attended the French high school, where she developed a passion for drawing. In 1995, she joined the studio of Spanish painter Miguel Gayo. For three years, she studied portraiture and nude drawing. In 1996, she began teaching herself abstract art. She rubbed shoulders with Latin American artists such as the great masters Oswaldo Guayasamín, Zapata, Aguirre, among others... In 2000, she held her first solo exhibition at the Kingman Art Gallery in Quito, which was a great success. That same year, while travelling in France and Europe, she deepened her artistic research through contact with the works of the great masters of art history. She was deeply moved by the work of Zao Wou-Ki, whose pictorial vision had a major influence on her own work. In 2001, she moved to France, near Manosque, in Jean Giono's Provence, where she has been pursuing her international career ever since. Fascinated by the light and poetry of the hills of the Alpes de Haute Provence, she composes works centred on the energetic, physical, emotional, spiritual and sociological impact of the elements: earth, water, air and fire, to which she adds ether, the metaphysical element that binds the universe. "The search for light, rhythms and intensity are the foundations of her art." She creates numerous works during her travels in the heart of nature around the world, in contact with the elements. In her abstract paintings, she uses acrylic techniques, pigments, inks and volcanic sands. From the outset, she has been committed, through her art, to preserving the planet, working with children and young people to pass on knowledge and raise awareness. She is a member of the association Artborescences, Arts, Sciences et Transmissions en résistance pour la terre, l'eau, le vivant, les forêts (Artborescences, Arts, Sciences and Transmissions in resistance for the earth, water, life and forests).
In October 2024, she was awarded the Targa Jean Giono, a literary prize given for the first time since 1972 to a visual artist, which honours the memory of the universal French writer Jean Giono.
Since the 2000s, Rosario has exhibited around the world, participating in international cultural events such as the12thand8theditions of the Florence Biennale in Italy in 2021 and 2011, the Lliut_Art Biennale in Gandía, Spain, in 2018, the Yaoundé-Cameroon Biennale in 2023, the Salon des Indépendants in 2019 and 2020, and the Salon Comparaisons at the Grand Palais in Paris from 2020 to 2026 with the Latin American group. She has also exhibited in legendary venues such as the Ateneo de Madrid in Spain and the Carzou Foundation in Manosque, France, where she received the painting prize. She is also the winner of the Premio Ercole d'Este prize in Italy and the Award of Excellence in Bologna in 2019.
Her works can be found in private and public collections around the world, such as in the Fondation Écureuil Caisse d'Épargne art collection.
