Musée de Préhistoire des Gorges du Verdon
Presentation
Located in Quinson, in the heart of the Verdon, the Gorges du Verdon Museum of Prehistory presents the results of archaeological digs carried out in the Verdon for over 50 years. Designed by the architect Norman Foster, the museum is one of the biggest Musuem of Prehistory in Europe.
The Musée de Préhistoire des gorges du Verdon presents to the public the adventure of the first men in Provence for a million years. The permanent exhibition alternates scenes of prehistoric life, archaeological objects from Haute-Provence and Verdon and multimedia media.
At the entrance of the museum, a mammoth, a woolly rhino, a reindeer, a megaceros and a saber-toothed tiger welcome visitors.
Until 15 December 2025, the Musée de Préhistoire is staging an exhibition entitled ‘Sors de ta Réserve!’ in collaboration with the Haute Provence Geological Reserve. On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Reserve is revealing the truth about its mission to protect, study and promote geological heritage.
From 8 March and throughout the year, discover the ‘Echoes of the Bronze’ exhibitions, integrated into the permanent exhibition, which will highlight the richness of the Bronze Age period.’
